Chilton County is a rural but progressive area with small-to-medium sized towns located on Interstate 65. Home to cities of Clanton, Jemison, Maplesville, and Thorsby, it is part of the rapidly growing and developing corridor of Interstate 65. It is also within a fifty mile radius of Birmingham, Montgomery, the Maxwell-Gunter Air Force Base, Selma, and Alexander City.

Additionally, you will find many active civic clubs, youth activities - including a strong scouting program - civilian and military retirement organizations, strong churches of virtually every faith and a seasonal supply of locally grown fresh fruits, nuts and vegetables. Opportunities for full or part time jobs are excellent.

Extensive forest land and two major dams on the Coosa River join to provide excellent hunting, fishing and boating - all within easy driving distance. With several safe and quiet community parks, sports events, YMCA, a nine-hole golf course, and the recently opened Minooka Park, Chilton County has an excellent mix for individual and family relaxation, recreation, and fitness for all ages.

Higgins Ferry Park on Lake Mitchell features a pavilion, a fish weigh-in station, a roped off swimming area, lots for RVs and Travel Trailers with full hookups, a beautiful hillside tent camping area, plenty of parking spaces, East Chilton Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department's Fire and Rescue Boat stationed on site and a full time Park Ranger.
